He is survived by his son Boyd (Lori) daughter Rae (Remi) mother Rose; sisters, Rosalie (Stuart) and Joyce (Ed). Also mourning his loss are many friends and family, as well as his many online friends at CompuServe. Our family wishes to extend special thanks to all those who took time out of their lives to help Ed during his illness. Ed was born in Pine River, MB on February 13, 1935. He joined the navy in 1952 and served in Nova Scotia and Esquimalt. He then joined the Federal Public Service in 1956, and started with the Department of Mines and Natural Resources, spending the next 36 years with The Canadian Hydrographic Service. Eighteen of those years were spent in Ottawa and the other 18 at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Nova Scotia; retiring in 1991. Since his return to Winnipeg in 1992, Ed contributed to many organizations, such as the FSNA, ANAVETS #283 and the Optimist Club of Assiniboia. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the Grace Hospitals Oncology Department and the fourth floor staff for their care and support. There will be a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
